The Apple Watch is only a few weeks from launch, but I had the chance spend a week testing out all its new and interesting features. For my first day, I focussed on using it as a fitness tracker. I took it to the gym to see what exactly it had to offer.
There are three Apple-made apps that you can use to for fitness:
- Activity
- Workout
- Health
The
Activity app keeps track of daily goals, such as steps walked, calories burned, and the length of an exercise session. The
Workout app displays your most recent exercise session, so that the next time you workout you are able to build off of the previous session. Lastly is the
Health app, which many Apple users are already used to from their iPhones. It will store the data obtained from the other two apps. These apps are not the only features that aim to get you moving. If you have been sedentary for too long, the Apple Watch will buzz and tell you that you should stand up for a few minutes. It has been proven that sitting at a desk for hours on end can increase a slew of health programs, so this is a great way to keep yourself in motion throughout the day.
Overall, my first day with the Apple Watch was a huge success. The distance that it recorded for my treadmill time matched what was on the treadmill, and having a reliable heart rate monitor helped me keep myself moving through the entire workout. In the end, I met all of my daily goals, the interface made it easy to use, and I can safely say that I do
not want to workout without it again. I look forward to sharing all the other wonderful tools this watch has to offer.
